Speechless

How will I be able to go and visit- and not come home with a broken heart? And go on with my everyday life and everyday "problems" and not think about the thousands of children just like Margaret? And watch Jack play in his PLAYROOM FULL OF TOYS and not think about those kids playing with a tire? How?

Just a virus

We saw the pediatrician this afternoon- his ears look good and she thinks it's just a virus. We'll be continuing to rotate the medicine and keep an eye on him. We met Grandma and Grandpa M at Target after the appt, and he seemed to cheer up a bit seeing them. He even had a few bites of grilled cheese at lunch. He's napping now, so hopefully when he gets up he'll be feeling a lot better.

Sick Little Boy

Jack spent Friday morning throwing up every hour or so. We took a 2 hour nap in my bed once he'd gone an hour without throwing up. After that we just sat on the couch together and read books and watched tv. He sat right next to me or on my lap, sucked on his nukie, held yellow blankie, and basically didn't move a muscle all afternoon. He was that sick. He seemed to perk up a bit on Friday night but then woke up at 3am very hot and fussy. We gave him some Motrin and he slept till 8. Today the fever returned and has stayed pretty high (102-104) all day. Despite alternating Motrin and Tylenol, the fever hasn't gone away. I talked to his pediatrician tonight and told her about the fever and how quiet and sleepy he's been today. She said that's normal for kids with fevers, but wants to see him tomorrow at noon. She didn't think we needed to go to Urgent Care or anything, just keep rotating the medicine and try to keep him comfortable. She'll check his ears tomorrow and hopefully give us some more advice. He's such a happy and active kid- seeing him so quiet and withdrawn cause he's feeling so sick just breaks your heart. Hopefully a good night's sleep will do him some good. I'll update tomorrow after the appt.

Icky

As soon as I opened his door (at 2:30 in the morning) I knew he had thrown up. It took us forever to clean him up and get him settled down. Yellow blankie was a victim of the throw up, so off to the washing machine he went. Much to Jack's horror of course. We gave him the imposter yellow blankie- he put up with it and finally fell asleep in our bed. This morning he had a few sips of pedialyte, and 5 minutes later threw up all over the coffee table. He's trying to nap now since we didn't get much sleep last night. My poor baby.

Should be a fun weekend!

Look What I Just Got!!!!!

From Mister's Momma- sunflowers from Kansas!
A good friend is priceless.
I am so lucky.

Happy Birthday To Me!

After Jack emptied out the bottom drawer of my dresser and put an unknown number of clothing items down the laundry chute (I was checking my email and not monitoring his actions as I should have been!)- he took a nap and then we went to Toddler Tuesday at Tumbling Tykes. He went down the slides, played in the sandbox, jumped in the ball pit, and had a really good time. After that we went out to lunch with Daddy-O. Jack's napping now- gotta go reclaim my clean clothes from the laundry downstairs!

Tonight is still up in the air as for plans... we might stay in and just do a frozen pizza for dinner- who knows!

Thanks for the calls, emails, ecards, and real cards!

Happy Birthday Finley!!!!

Happy 4th Birthday Finley!

You don't even want to know how much peanut butter it took to make him wear that hat for a picture!!!

Not quite as exciting as Finley's birthday... I'll be 29 tomorrow!

Weekend Update

We had a very good weekend- the weather was awesome! Nice and warm.

On Saturday I got my hair cut- shorter than it was before. LOVE IT!
After I got home I took Jack and Finley on a walk. They are both obsessed with being outside now that it's warmer. Jack even goes and tries to pull his fleece jacket off the hook in the hall. I'm pretty sure that's his way of telling me to take him outside- cause when I don't put his jacket on and take him out, he throws one of his mini fits.

After our walk we went on a family picnic to the park. Jack was so funny, sitting on the blanket with his legs crossed at his ankles like he always does, happily chomping away on his sandwich and sneaking a few chips from the bag. He was such a big little boy, B and I were totally cracking up at him. At some point on Saturday he got his first skinned knee: didn't even cry!

On Saturday night we went over to the house of some friends of ours. Jack got a chance to play with their little girl, Taylor. She's 6 weeks older than him, and much more outgoing since he was pretty shy at first. She enjoyed pointing to his nose and stealing the basketball away from him!

By the time we were ready to go to dinner though, he was holding his own and not nearly such a wimp! On the way home we stopped for ice cream and Jack and I shared a hot fudge sundae.

On Sunday my dad and I went to church, and then we all went out to lunch with B's parents. We ate at this restaurant right along the river- and sat outside since it was so beautiful out.

Jack spent the majority of his time leaning against the glass half wall and looking at the river below. He was not happy about having to come and sit down for lunch.

Thank goodness his grandpas were there to take him on a little walk to look at the water and the boats.

We stopped to see Super Nana on the way home. Jack got to sit on his Uncle Tom's Harley.

And check out the tulips.

After lunch we took down our storm windows and put the screens up. Finally! Fresh air in the house! Only one window was broken and one head sliced in the process. No, the broken window was not the cause of my dad's sliced head- that would be because he walked into the ladder we had tied to the top of the car! One bandaid and some antibacterial cream later, he was fine!

B's parents walked to a neighborhood restaurant with us for dinner, Jack ate some cheesy noodles and mandarin oranges- forget the strawberries. The picky toddler has decided he doesn't like strawberries anymore.

What happened to the kid who'd eat anything???!!!!

It was great to be outside so much- finally feels like summer is on the way!

Here are some bonus pictures- requested by Auntie Ali

There's a puppa on your shirt!!

A rainy day. Ran some errands this morning. Just hanging out around the house.

Possibly my new favorite picture of Jack. I just love this expression! He had just woken up from his morning nap (note the red cheek)

15 Months

15 months ago today, we met you for the first time.

Look how much you've changed!

You are always busy, too busy to stop for a picture!

You like to screech and yell at the top of your lungs when you're excited!

You can be thoughtful and quiet sometimes too

You love your puppa dog a little more every day. You love chasing him so you can give him hugs and kisses.

You love to wear your Diego sunglasses.

Happy 15 Month Birthday Jack-a-roo! We love you to the moon...and back!

Love,
Mama and Daddy-O

Hard Workin' Mama

I've spent the past 2 days working on my resume and applications to teach in the fall. YUCK!!! I hate applications and resumes and questions and everything that goes along with getting a job. But I am excited about having a classroom of my own again. I just hope I get hired!

Our Sensitive Little Man

You may recall the story about when we visited the National Zoo in D.C.- Jack started to cry as soon as the panda left the front of the exhibit and went behind some rocks. Well, tonight on the news they had a story about pandas... and you can guess what happened!

Snow Day

Words cannot describe the bitterness I feel about experiencing a winter storm in April. Why did we move here again???

To make today that much more unbearable, Jack has a fever of 102.3 and is cranky, cranky, cranky. So he's drugged up on Motrin- and to keep him entertained and not whining at me every 3 seconds- we made chocolate peanut butter cookies*

He was unsure about licking the beaters at first...

But then he dug right in...

This is what those blasted cookies were SUPPOSED to look like:

Do mine look like those?? I.DON'T.THINK.SO.

I hope all of you are having a MUCH better Wednesday than we are!

*Don't worry, he got the peanut butter free batch. No pb till he's 3 says the pediatrician.

Not quite a new brother or sister...

But it'll have to do for now! Introducing the newest member of our family:
Freddie the Fish

P.S. I wanted to name him "Dead in 24 Hours Guaranteed" but you know, that's kind of a long name!

Weekend

We were busy this weekend... GG Aunt Shirley's World Famous Easter Basket Hunt on Saturday- who knew my Great Aunt Shirley was the world's best easter basket hider? Those things were HARD to find!!! Some of my cousins were still looking long after Jack had devoured his whole hard boiled egg! On Saturday night my dad and brother came over for dinner. On Sunday we went to church- Jack did another great job playing in the cribbery while we were in church. As long as he's got that nukie and yellow blankie- he's all good! Before we left for church, Jack found his Easter basket. He got 2 new books, a puzzle, and a musical instrument set. Everything was a big hit- especially the musical stuff! Thanks for the great idea, Melissa! On Sunday night we went to Super Nana's house for Easter dinner. Jack ate a ton of ham and sweet potatoes. The highlight of the night was when Jack spotted 2 real bunnies outside, and then cried when they hopped away. B took him on 2 trips around the outside of the house looking for them. Jack sure loves his animals! A million pictures to upload...and some are out of order... oh well! Enjoy!

P.S. Isn't he just too darn cute in his Easter outfit??!!! Thanks to Mister for the cords!
