Double the Fun

Little miss goopy eye has a double ear infection! Plus an eye infection!

The poor doll is taking her bubble gum flavored medicine (is that really necessary for a 7 month old??) and eye drops like a pro. According to the doctor, she'll be just fine by Saturday. Just in time for us to head to Madison for my dad's 61st birthday party that he doesn't want!

Jack had a great visit at his potential nursery school. Of course he was all shy and didn't say a word until just before we left... but he really did like it! The school is small- only 10 kids per class and they have a daily schedule that's the perfect balance between play time and learning time. I'll be sending the registration form in tomorrow.

Now if I can just get over the fact that I won't be able to take him to school and pick him up everyday...

I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday. I even get to wear jeans to school!! That'll get me out of bed in the morning!

Why? Why? Why? NO NO NO!!!!

He has give up the afternoon nap.

Dr. Ubell warned us that this could happen. He took a nap on Sunday and then didn't go to bed until 11 pm!!!! The kid was not tired at all. So we've taken away the naps, he's a bit of a grouch around 5 but then goes right to bed around 7:30.

I can't believe this. How am I supposed to get my down time???

Emmers... has goop in both eyes, but the whites of her eyes aren't red. Who knows whats up with that. She's sleeping like a pro without being swaddled- she's actually sleeping better at night. Doesn't get up at all for her deedees!

Jack and I are touring his possible nursery school for the fall tomorrow. He's very excited about visiting. I'm nervous and sad that he's already old enough to tour a school!!!

Brandon has returned from D.C. No Obama sightings. Got to bunk with a random guy named Bob. Good times!

3 Year Check-Up

Jack saw Dr. Ubell today. It was so different from any other appointments he's had. The nurse took him to a different area of the clinic to take his blood pressure, get his weight and measure his height. It was so fun to see my little baby boy treated like a real kid at the doctor's office!!

Here are his stats:
Height: 40.5 inches tall
Weight: 41.5 pounds

He's still off the charts for both- and she said he's doing just great!

She was happy to see that he's potty trained. He can continue wearing Pull-Ups at night until he consistently stays dry. His little bladder won't be mature enough to hold it all night long for a while. He also sleeps too deeply to wake up and go at night.

We talked about enrolling him in preschool in the fall. I have a couple of schools I'm interested in. I'll be calling them tomorrow since the enrollment season is upon us!

Things to work on:
learning how to pedal a bike
learning how to put on shirts and pants all by himself
working on singing the ABC'S. How is it that he knows the words to every other song in the world- except that one!!!??? (This is my goal for him, Dr. Ubell said not to worry about it!)

Dr. Ubell said not to worry about how often he breaks out in hives. If we can't figure out what's causing them he might just be one of those kids who has them every so often. She mentioned having him take Zyrtec if it continues. We'll wait and see if we need to take that step. He hasn't had any in a few days.

Jack still confuses letter sounds when he speaks- he says the s sound instead of f sometimes. Again, not to worry. He also goes through stages where he stutters. She said that's totally normal for kids his age.

I love his doctor, She's so down to earth and easy to talk to.

Emma came with us too. She had to have her second flu shot. She screamed like crazy for about a minute and then got over it. She went to bed without being swaddled for the first time tonight! Wish us luck tonight!!!

Progress?

He came into our room about 3 last night crying and asking for his deedees. He crawled in with us and then decided to chat for about an hour!! I finally told him to "HUSH!!" He fell asleep and slept in till 7:30. He never took a nap today, no tears, just read books and layed in his bed with Moe Moe for awhile. I put him to bed tonight- 2 books and NO TEARS! Didn't even ask for deedee! He asked to go in my bed and then he wanted to sleep in the playroom (he likes to sleep in random rooms sometimes!) but I held firm and pretended to fall asleep with him. He talked for a bit and then fell asleep about 10 till 8.

I think we're getting there! This definitely counts as one of the hardest parenting things ever.

On the Emma front:

Anybody remember when to start a baby on table food? I'm drawing a blank... she had baby food with turkey in it tonight- her first meat! Wahoo!

Have I posted our before and after pics for our redecorating? I'm working on it!

Daddy's Turn

Well, he cries and carries on if I try to put him down... Brandon was able to reason with him and got him to sleep for his nap. Looks like Daddy's on permanent duty!!

We had Jack's birthday party tonight- just family as usual. He got a few books, clothes and moon sand. I had never heard of it- but that stuff is AWESOME!

Emma, by the way, has another tooth! That's 2 on the bottom so far. We found this tooth on Jack's birthday. She has a thing for important days when her teeth come up!

Well that pretty much sucked.

Nap #1 without the deedees. He didn't nap. Cried the whole time.

Night #1 without the deedees. He cried and carried on and begged "Mama, I want my deedees back!!!" for over an hour. He finally passed out around 10pm.

We'll see how the nap today goes.

There's nothing worse than taking away a comfort item from your child.

At least we can blame it on the dentist.... "the dentist says you can't have anymore deedees once you are 3."

So we boxed them up and sent them to the baby animals in Africa. If he could, he'd be on the first plane to go and bring them back!

Three

Dear Jack,
Holy cowabunga! Today you are 3 years old!

I am so glad that I got to spend the whole day with you and Emma. I got to take you to Ihop for lunch, the library for new books, and the grocery store for your special dinner ingredients. All day I have been thinking about how much I love you and how lucky I am to have you as my son.

This morning as I watched you eat your cereal at the table I was thinking about how I always say, "I can't believe he's going to be 3." Well guess what? I can believe you are 3. You have grown up so very much this past year. You've gone from "talking" where we could understand about 10% of what you were saying to actually speaking! We love how you mispronounce words (Magagacar for Madagascar, Tigeress for Tigress, and kunk for skunk just to name a few!) and use your imagination to tell us stories.

You are still a fairly shy little boy. It takes you a while to warm up in new situations. Once you do though, you love to have a good time. When we got to the Family Christmas party in Chicago this year, you were stuck to me like glue for the first 15 minutes or so. But by the end of the party, you were hanging out in another room with all of your "big guy cousins!" I don't mind at all that it takes you a bit to get used to what's going on. I'm glad you like to think things through and observe before you jump right in.

You have grown up in other ways too this year. You are totally potty trained (well, you occasionally still have accidents at night!) and are working on getting dressed and undressed all by yourself. You are super tall for your age and have absolutely no baby fat left at all! Most people guess that you are at least a year older than you really are. It's neat to have people think you're older, but sometimes you need your Mama to tell them how old you are so they know why you aren't in Kindergarten already! :)

You spent the last half of this year staying home with Moe Moe and Bampa full time while Daddy-O and I were at work instead of going to "school" 2 days a week. I think it was a great decision. You got to experience story times, gardening, walks, and lots of other adventures with two of your most favorite people in the whole world. Thanks to Moe Moe you now say "I'd be happy to" when we ask you to do something! I don't think I've ever met another kid who loves being home as much as you do. You are so comfortable in your house. You love having a playroom to escape to and a racing track (the circle from living room to dining room to kitchen to hallway to living room!) to run on downstairs. You always seem to know where every single thing is in our house- whether it's your stuff or mine! I love asking you where Emma's monitor is and off you run to get it.

Another big event in your life this year was the addition of Emma 2 Lemmas as you like to call her! I was never worried about how you'd handle a sibling, I just worried about having enough time for you. Thank goodness you'll never remember what a challenge that girl was the first few weeks, or how you must have watched Finding Nemo at least a thousand times while we were trying to calm your sister. You seemed to realize something big was happening in our house and you helped us out by being able to chill on your own when we needed you to. Thanks buddy! One of my favorite memories of you and Emma when she was a few weeks old was how you'd ask to hold her. We'd stick her on your lap and the first few times you'd just start to shove her off when you were done holding her- so I told you to say "Done!" when you were finished so we could grab her from you. I loved how you'd hold her for about 30 seconds and then throw your hands in the air and yell "DONE!" It still cracks me up to think of it! The one thing I am probably most proud of you for is how much you love your sister. I don't just mean you tolerate her, or like her. I mean you really, honestly love her. You spend tons of energy trying to get her to laugh, you put on countless puppet shows for her and you just love having her near you. When you hear her wake up on the monitor you say "Mom! Emma's awake! Go get her!" And if I'm taking Finley out or doing laundry or something, you go right in her room, climb on the stool next to her bed, unswaddle her and say "Hi Baby Girl!". I love that about you Roo. Remember the time when Mama was in the bathroom with the door open (cause I had left you two in the playroom) and the next thing I saw was you walking backwards down the hallway dragging Emma's playmat along the floor with HER ON IT! I said, "Jack! What are you doing!!??" And you just looked at me and said, "I'm taking her for a ride!" Buddy I love you so much. Thanks for being a truly great big brother.

The saddest thing to ever happen to our little family happened about a month ago. Bampa died and went to heaven way before we were ready for him to go. As sad as I was for me and how much I would miss him, my heart was really broken for you, Jack. You and Bampa were two peas in a pod. You absolutely adored him. Everything from playing monster trucks together to planting flowers became a special moment for the two of you. I wish so much that somehow you'll remember Bampa and how wonderful he was to you. I hope that because we talk about him all the time, you'll feel like you know him years from now when you head off to a game or a practice. Bampa would have loved to have seen you grow up Jack. I'm so sorry that was taken away from you. I also want you to know how special you have been to Moe Moe through all of this. You have helped to heal her heart by just being you. Wonderful, kind, funny, and thoughtful you. Thank you for that Jack.

You are so important to us buddy. We love you more and more every day. We are having so much fun watching you grow up. Thanks for being the best little boy in the whole wide world. Happy 3rd Birthday!

We love you!
Love,
Mama
(& Daddy-O and Emmers too!)

Seven Months

Today you are 7 months old, baby girl! Like every mom in the world says, I can't believe how fast you are growing! You just keep getting cuter and more fun to be with as the days go by. Right now you are playing in your saucer just like your big brother used to. Chewing on the same toys your brother chewed on.

You're a busy girl these days. You are rolling over from tummy to back when you feel like it, and eating TONS of food! You like pretty much every fruit and veggie you've tried. Plums sure tasted good to you, but you broke out in hives after eating them, so we'll have to wait a while before we try those again!

Moe Moe is having a lot of fun watching you and your big brother while Mama and Daddy-O are at work. She's taught you how to smack your lips just like she does. You have a good time with Obeo too when she's here every other week to watch you. You guys love having a morning bob together! There's nothing better than snuggling with Obeo and drinking a bob!

One of your favorite things continues to be sitting in your crib and pulling on your mobile. I'm thinking we'll have to lower your crib mattress pretty soon- but I really don't want to! That means you are getting bigger and older! Boo Hoo! I want you to stay little! :)

We love you tons, baby girl! Happy 7 month birthday!!

Happy 2009

Here's the list of things I've accomplished while on winter break from school.

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

Yep, pretty much I've done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I was supposed to. Oh well, at least I had a nice and relaxing break!

Our living room is 99.9% done being painted... the subfloor in the kitchen is down... the new outlets are being put in for the kitchen... we CANNOT agree on a color for the kitchen. Brandon likes some sort of orange shade (puke!!!) and I am leaning towards a blueish green color. We need someone to decide for us. Any volunteers?

Here are some more pictures for your entertainment.

Jack and his cousin, Melissa. She gave him a racetrack. He loves it!

Emmers and her Daddy-O
She's just keeping up with the tradition. Jack looked pretty much just like this too!

Anybody going to save me yet?
